The long march to Halloween has begun, because dubious costume wigs are popping up on a ton of shopping sites. While looking in Drugstore.com's Halloween section, I was taken aback by this BuySeasons Ho Wig ($20). I don't like the term in general, I had no idea that fluffy black hair and red lipstick were such a crime, and I really never imagined that a marketer could look at a piece of fake hair and think "Hey, that's a wig for somebody who wants to broadcast to everyone that they're a marginalized, dehumanized figure for Halloween.

Ever wonder if some of the amazing hair celebrities sport is actually theirs? It's not, more often than you might think. From weaves to extensions to outright wigs, can you guess which of my mystery celebs is rocking the hair their mama gave them .

Check out these saucy photos of Angelina Jolie for the July issue of Vanity Fair. It's hard to believe that someone with her gorgeous mane would ever feel the need to wear a wig, but it was actually her idea at the photo shoot. I don't own a wig, but I do like to wear my clip-on hair extensions as much as possible.

Since Britney shaved her head, she's been having fun touring LA while wearing different color wigs. Too bad for her sake it hasn't tricked the paparazzi and given her more privacy. Most recently we've seen her with long straight blonde locks, a change from her usual medium length wavy brunette mane.

I'm wiggin' out today. First, I saw Britney the cover of next month's (generously Photoshopped) Allure, and was entranced by her hair. Of course, it's a wig—but it looks natural and luxurious, and quite beautiful.

After seeing Heidi and Spencer's Halloween shenanigans, I'm thinking that, yes, we will be seeing lots of Jon-and-Kate pairs this Halloween, particularly because that asymmetric blond wig is selling like crazy. Also from popular culture, I'd venture to say that there will be many sparkly Edwards and Bellas (get her exact makeup look here), Mad Men tributes, and even a few zombies, thanks to the success of Zombieland.
Of course, there are always tributes to those who have passed, and perhaps we'll see some Michael Jackson costumes, complete with heavily lined eyes, light red lips, and curly wigs.

As the enfant terrible of the styling world, Charlie Le Mindu is known for his hair-raising creations. For his second runway show, held during London Fashion Week, he displayed a stunning and strange mix of hair sculptures. They're made from wigs, and they must be seen to be believed.

Say what you will about Tyra Banks, but she's definitely not afraid to be seen in her less glamorous moments. In her book, she posed with no makeup, and in today's season premiere of The Tyra Show, she wore her hair naturally. Since she often wears a wig, weave, or other hairpiece, she wanted to encourage women to embrace their natural hair.

With Halloween just a couple of weeks away, I'm finding all sorts of wacky costume wigs, weaves and extensions. Some are so bizarre that I can't help but wonder how they get manufactured. This wig, for instance, looks like the kind of wig that would never be sold, but it's a real wig.
