Beauty Mark It Results: Tingly Toothpaste

Instead of makeup, shampoos, or hair removal devices, for this week's Beauty Mark It Challenge we're talking teeth. I wanted to know which toothpastes got those pearlies all sparkly and which ones didn't freshen as nicely. Thanks to all of your reviewing efforts, and here are my favorites below:

Elle 07 reviewed Crest Pro-Health Fluoride Toothpaste for Anticavity, Antigingivitis, and Sensitive Teeth ($4.29) — "This is my favorite toothpaste. Taste is minty, makes my teeth feel clean, and no problem with sensitivity. (Oh and my dad's a dentist.)"
Nals33 liked Crest Pro-Health Night Fluoride Toothpaste ($4.29) — "When you use it at night, it feels like a normal toothpaste except for there's this smoothness to your teeth. I didn't pay much attention to it the first night I used it. But the next morning, I noticed that I still had that smoothness and clean-feeling mouth. Also, it definitely made my teeth whiter (though, not as much as with whitening strips), and it hasn't made my teeth sensitive. I will definitely be buying this toothpaste again."
Righteothen said Peppermint Anticavity Fluoride Toothpaste by Tom's of Maine ($6.15) takes some getting used to — "This is not typical toothpaste. It's not as sweet, it doesn't foam as much, and the flavor is not as strong. The xylitol in this is the only sweetener, but it doesn't make you think 'sweet.' For those that think it doesn't taste as strong as your typical toothpaste, that is because it uses natural oils for the flavor, and those take a little to get used to. Once you are, it is quite flavorful."

Beauty Mark It Results: Blemish Blasters

We've all been there. The dreaded moment when that dreaded pimple appears from what seems like out of nowhere. Whatever you call these pesky bumps (zits, blemishes, spots, comedones), they're always unwanted.

So, for last week's Beauty Mark It challenge, I asked you to review blemish controllers. I wondered which anti-acne products and oil-free creams help to keep your bumps at bay. You had some great input in the comments section from the original post, and here are my favorite from our Product Reviews page:

Witchy Ways reviewed Avene Acne Spot Treatment ($16). "I used this for a while in combination with the Avene moisturizer for people who undergo acne treatment and it worked perfectly. Unfortunately, once I stopped the really heavy acne treatment, the moisturizer was too much for me and I only use it once a week now. It still worked and I was thankful for that."
Nals33 reviewed Boscia Clear Complexion Treatment ($35). "I used this for a few months. I find that my skin reacts better to products that are all natural. This product didn't dry my skin out very much, which is always great! The only reason I've stopped using this product is because my skin gets use to products fairly quickly. But I definitely recommend this to those who need a blemish fighter that is on the gentle side."
Stef42678 reviewed M·A·C Oil Control Lotion ($28). "I really like this moisturizer because it is great for oily and dry skin. It keeps your skin hydrated and doesn't feel heavy or greasy. It is good for using everyday and doesn't clog your pores."

Beauty Mark It Results: Luscious Lip Plumpers

When it comes to plump lips, Angelina Jolie's a lucky one. While we all might not be blessed with a naturally luscious pout, there's an easy way to fake it — injection-free.

And since I'm sure you'll be caught under a mistletoe or two in the next few weeks, I asked you to voice your opinion. Which lip plumpers leave you with a kissable mouth and which ones are just a bunch of baloney? This week was tough to narrow down, and here are a few of my favorites:

Brandysbug reviewed Too Faced Lip Injection Lip Plumping Treatment ($18.50) — "I put it on and OUCH! My lips stung for about an hour. However, they did look very pretty — plump, shiny, and pink (probably because they were burning). After about a week, there was no pain after applying it. If I skip it for a while, though, the next time I put it on it burns again. I guess you just have to build up a resistance. Lip plumper resistance training."
On the other hand, Seka21 wasn't thrilled about it. She says, "My boyfriend turned to me and started freaking out because my lips were (and I joke not) two times their normal size and all blistery at the bit where the skin and lips meet. Not only that, one side was bigger than the other so I literally looked like I had bad collagen! A week later my lips are suffering — all chapped and dry as a result of this stuff."
Bella Donna didn't like Sally Hansen Lip Blush Plumping Balm ($9.99) — "You have: Thin, pale lips. You get: Glossy, but sticky, irritated and itchy lips. I didn't notice the slightest plumping of my lips and the pink shade doesn't suit my dark olive skin. The product, including its claim, is totally tacky. After typing out this review, I'm running back to my drugstore for my refund."

Beauty Mark It Results: Bubble Baths

Bubble baths are the ultimate luxury. All you need is some suds, water, and a glass of Riunite on Ice — and all is good with the world. Lately, I've been on a bubble bath kick and I'm looking for some new products. So, for last week's Beauty Mark It challenge, I asked you to share with us which bubble baths were extra foamy and which ones fell flat.

Thanks to all of you who reviewed and here are some of my favorites below:

Tngirly was apprehensive about purchasing Juniper Spruce Herbal Bath by Dresdner ($3.30): "Juniper? It did not make me think of a relaxing time — but once I poured it into the bath and I sunk in, I felt like I was bathing in the middle of a pine forest! It is a heavenly scent and leaves your skin feeling great once you are done."
MandyWH reviewed Origins Ginger Float ($26): "Origins Ginger Float bubble bath is totally luxurious and soothing — if you can hold back from eating the contents of the jar before you have a chance to dump it in your bath. Seriously, how do they make this smell so good?"
Angelica declared that Victoria's Secret Dream Angels Wish Softening Body Wash ($15) was "not heavenly for me!": "I used this at a friend's house and developed a decidedly heavenly rash. If you don't have sensitive skin and like the scent you might fare better, but it didn't go over well with my skin."

Beauty Mark It Results: Fragrances Under $25

Cheap perfume — doesn't exactly conjure up pleasant images, now does it? But, there are several on-the-cheap perfumes available that are actually quite low on the funk factor. For last week's Beauty Mark It challenge, I asked you to share your opinions on perfumes under the $25 mark. Thanks to all who submitted their reviews, and here are my three favorites:

Team member Ranksubjugation gave Aquolina Pink Sugar Rollerball ($19) five stars — "Floral perfumes give me headaches for days, but I swoon at the gourmands. This smells like yummy cotton candy, and somehow communicates a sense of warmth, too. Very comforting, sweet, fun, cozy!"
Saucymerlot was a fan of Fresh Sugar Lemon To Go ($24.50) — "The lemon top note is a bit too intense initially, but after a couple hours, it is subtly sweet and citrus-y, though complex. . . You definitely think sugar and sweetness when smelling this, though it actually smells nothing like sugar. I also use in a pinch as a home fragrance. That being said, my boyfriend thinks I smell like lemon dish soap when I wear it."
It was a great "accidental find" for Smashedpotatoe13, who reviewed Lucky You Perfume ($21.89) — "A friend left her sample-sized Lucky You in my makeup bag a while back. . . let's just say I 'forgot' to give it back to her. I like that I can buy it at any Target in case I forget to pack my everyday perfume when I'm going out of town."

Beauty Mark It Results: Volumizing Shampoo

Pump, pump, pump it up. Did you clap and shout to the beat of that cheer back in high school, too? Rah-rah ways aside, for last week's Beauty Mark It challenge, I asked you to show me how you pump up your hair's volume by reviewing your favorite/not-so-favorite volumizing shampoos.

I loved reading about your picks, and here are three featured reviews:

Team member Myystque wasn't feeling the love for Paul Mitchell Extra-Body Daily Shampoo ($8.49). "I hate to say this, since I love the Paul Mitchell brand's ethics," she confesses. "But this shampoo was horrible. It made my hair feel clumpy and thick, not voluminous. If anything, it felt worse when dry. The product was so disappointing I took it back to the store for a refund."
A few of you really liked Aveda Pure Abundance Volumizing Shampoo ($13.99). Luluroller says, "I've tried a ton of volumizing shampoos and this is always my go-to. Paired with the conditioner of the same name, this is guaranteed volume."
Bumble & Bumble's Thickening Shampoo ($18.99) was a hands-down favorite. "This is sort of my standard for thickening shampoo for fine hair," says Lscrabtr. "After using it, my hair hangs better, even without blow-drying or styling. If you do choose to use a blow-dryer or other styling tools, the results are dynamite. While I wouldn't expect miracles from a shampoo, this definitely delivers, without that static-y lightheadedness you can get from other products. A major drawback is the price and the availability."

Beauty Mark It Results: Hair Removal

Nobody really needs to remove body hair. (OK, maybe surgeons do, but aside from that, no.) Still, most of us defuzz here and there. Last week I asked you to share some reviews — both good and bad — of products you've been using. Here are some of the standouts:

Venus Embrace was a big winner. Hippiecowgirl says, "These razor blades give me the best shaving experience. The ribbons of moisture add an extra layer of protection. The result is a close shave without nicks or cuts. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is the astronomical price."
Missmegs825 dissed Veet Rasera, saying, "I thought it smelled funny, it irritated my skin, and while the areas where the hair actually came off were in fact smooth, those were few and far between."
The Nads facial wand gets points from KansasNutmeg, who has a rave review: "All you do is take the pen and place it in the spots you want waxed. Then take the cloth pieces they provide, and wax away. The cloth pieces are reusable, simply put them under hot water, dry them out, and they are good to go. The pen makes it easy."

You probably know that Cleopatra was a big fan of the heavy-handed dark eyeliner, and with Halloween looming right around the corner, now’s a perfect time to do a little experimenting with eye makeup yourself. How bold will you go?

Steen reviewed CoverGirl Perfect Point Plus Self Sharpening Eye Pencil ($4.99) —
"It's no lie that I absolutely LOVE Blacktrack Fluidline by MAC ($15) for a crisp cat eye. But when I want a softer look, I won't use anything but the Perfect Point pencil. I have this pencil in three different colors and have yet to find anything better. The smudge tip is very handy . . . and the liner stays put throughout the day. What more could you need? A huge bonus for me is that I can easily go to any drugstore and pick it up."

I recall a makeup artist once telling me something like, "Once you get a client hooked on a foundation, they're yours forever." You know, I'm thinking she was right, because when it comes down to it — once you find your ultimate foundation, it's like you've hit the beauty jackpot.

It was always hard to find a product that I could use to cover up but not look too cakey. This product is perfect. . . All in all, I'm going to keep using this foundation for as long as they'll keep making it. Definite 5 stars, no doubt."

Beauty Mark It Results: Marvelous Masks

One of my simple pleasures in life is a weekly facial mask ritual, and so for last week's Beauty Mark It challenge, I asked you to review your favorite/not so favorite masks on our awesome new Product Review Site. Whether they be gels, creams, acne reducers, or firming enhancers, luxurious facial masks make me feel like a queen — well, for a few minutes, at least.

I loved reading everybody's opinions, and the following three reviews really stood out:

Mrs sonshine reviewed Clarins Truly Matte Pure and Radiant Mask ($27) — "Clarins is known for their gentle yet effective natural skincare. This Truly Matte Pure and Radiant Mask is one of their best products. Gentle enough for my dry and sensitive skin, it works like a vacuum to clean out yucky pores. I love applying it with a brush after a hot steamy shower."

Last week we switched things around by updating our weekly Beauty Mark It feature. Instead of asking you to go out there and find products that correlate to a specific topic, I asked you to go to our ever-fabulous Product Review Site to give your honest opinions instead. The subject matter this time around? To tell me what you think about your fave/not so fave Body Scrubs and Exfoliants.

Stooped reviewed Victoria's Secret Stimulating Body Scrub ($9) — "I usually prefer scrubs with bran or finely ground seeds, as the sugar scrubs I tried dissolved too early to be effective on the body. VS scrubs don't dissolve right away so you can work in some scrubbing without irking your skin. The fragrances are a bit too sweet at first, but soon wear off to a subtle, pleasing smell. Plus, you can't beat the price. They are also often on a bogo sale in stores."

You've all probably experienced the dreaded "growing out the hair" plight. Yep, I've been there myself. Whatever your situation might entail, growing out your hair might not be so bad after all. Last week, I asked you to help me come up with some ideas, whether they be products, accessories, or supplements to help those who are seeking longer lengths.

Thanks to team member bengalspice for her winning recommendation of this sassy Midnight Freesia Headband ($38) from Anthropologie. "I absolutely love this headband," she says. "It's a 7" flower that covers one side of my head like a little skull cap — but it looks awesome with my curls or if I do a vintage slicked back look." Cute and classy — I love it. Beauty Mark It Results: An "Un" Beauty Vacation

Next month, I'm going on a much-needed vacation to beautiful Central America to experience the picturesque countries of Guatemala and Belize. It should go without saying that I'll pack slightly differently than how I did for last week's Fashion Week. I won't be bringing my Shady Lady, and I won't be applying any fancy face serums either. Blow-dryer, flat iron? Nope — they won't be making the trip.

Most of my days and nights will be spent exploring the history, natural beauty, and culture of each country, so I asked you to recommend products for a minimized beauty routine that's both simple and condensed. Congratulations to WhiplashGirlchild for recommending Philosophy Shelter Sunscreen For Face Tinted SPF 30 ($20). Here's what I like about this product extraordinaire:

Formulated to be universally flattering on most skin tones.
Protection spans both the UVA and UVB rays.
Comes in a 2-ounce tube, making security lines a little easier and travel bags lighter.

Lightly hydrates without an unwanted greasy finish.

Beauty Mark It Results: Eye-Popping Brighteners

If you are a fan of What Not to Wear, you'll know that makeup artist Carmindy continually touts the importance of an eye brightener to conceal and lighten up the appearance of darkness around the eyes. Naturally, I've been a firm believer in her theory, but lately, the brand I've been using just doesn't seem to work as well as it used to for my skin.

Last week I asked you to help me in my quest for the perfect brightener — one that will conceal and lighten up darkness around the eyes. Well, a special thanks goes out to team member Marcella for her recommendation of Tarte Rest Assured Brightening Wand ($22). I'll let Marcella take it from here:

I use when I don't get enough sleep. I drop in some Rohto eye drops and line my bottom lid with this wonder product. All of a sudden, I don't look so old and tired anymore.

The cream under eye highlighter is great, too — if used minimally. A little bit goes a long way. Too much and you look like you're ready to go clubbing (which is not such a great day look for the office).

This product has quickly become a staple in my beauty routine and if you try it, you won't be disappointed!

Beauty Mark It Results: First Date Fabulous

Last week I told you about my newly single friend who was looking for some advice. She's back in the dating scene and wanted some guidance on how to present herself as the complete package — both brains and beauty.

My pal didn't want to come across as overly done up, but she didn't want to look like she made no effort at all. I asked you to recommend some products, and now thanks to your work, I'm sure second dates will be no problem whatsoever.

Thanks to Team member Baby Girl for suggesting Smashbox's Compact Anti-Shine ($28), an oil free mattifying product that ensures your makeup will remain intact. As she so humorously articulates, "No one wants to look like they just wiped their face with a pork chop." I couldn't agree more.

Beauty Mark It Results: Fashion Week, Here I Come

In just a few weeks, Fab and I are headed out to New York City for Spring/Summer Fashion Week 2009. I've already started shopping for my outfits, and I asked you for some beauty suggestions to complete my look. Since I'll be surrounded by intimidating fashion types, I requested suggestions that were professional, yet creatively sassy; trendy, but effortless.

This week it was so difficult to pick just one item from your selections. If I could, I'd pack them all! Team member laratf really rocked the runway on this one for recommending Lorac's Double Feature ($24). I'll be attending multiple shows and working long hours, and this product with multiple uses will help me perk right up. It covers undereye circles, reduces blemishes, and works as a highlighter, so I'll be sure to look wide awake — even if I'm not.

Beauty Mark It Results: The Shade You Looked For All Your Life

Last week, I told you about my receptionist friend who was overjoyed about a lipstick I was applying. While waiting for my hair appointment to start, I nonchalantly swept copperish berry shade across my lips. "What is that color?" she shrieked in excitement. "It's the shade I've been looking for all my life!" When it comes to finding the perfect shade, who can hold back?

All of us have had that aha moment — when you know you've hit gold (or mauve or peach or berry). I asked you to share with me your own perfect shade. TeamSugar member rhodes18 suggests MAC's Powder Blush in Fleur Power ($18). "This blush is my go-to shade for a warm, flushed glow," she says.

Beauty Mark It Results: Beauty of Olympic Proportions

Have you been watching the Olympics? After all, one billion people did tune in to the opening ceremony — and what a dazzling spectacle it was.

So, after thinking about all of the flipping, gliding, jumping, and kicking that goes down at such a monumental event, I asked you for some beauty product suggestions appropriate for an athlete. Since one beauty fan in particular went all out on this Beauty Mark It challenge, I have to give the gold medal to ohbaby for her contributions.

Ohbaby recommended Ted Gibson's Hair Sheets ($25), and I can see why. These handy styling cloths are perfect for an on-the-go Olympian; and they freshen your hair after a long workout when there's no time to shampoo. Beauty Mark It Results: Teen Choice Beauty

The 2008 Teen Choice Awards aired last night with Miley Cyrus as the host. So many of the stars turned out with stylish, yet age appropriate styles —Kristen Bell really rocked a cool hairstyle and Vanessa Hudgens amped it up with her dark liner.

So that's why, for last week's challenge, I asked you to bookmark beauty items that you think would stand out on the red carpet, but be suitable for a teenager. Coletta let us in on Principessa's lip balm, Bacio Me Tube ($12). According to her description, this sassy balm "makes lips soft and kissable."

Beauty Mark It Results: A Soulful, Sexy Look

Every other Saturday there's a soul-music dance party in town, and it's one of my favorite things in the city. I love it so much, I've even been contemplating dance lessons. But even if my moves aren't the best, I'll look the part. For last week's Beauty Mark It challenge, I wanted to know what you thought would help me achieve that soulful, sexy look.

TeamSugar member Marcella helped me out immensely. She found the perfect palette for the challenge: Nars Night Series Mini Palette. Of the palette Marcella said, "These are perfect colors for the soul singer look. These colors would pop equally well on the Supremes or Dusty Springfield back in the day, and are just as relevant now!" I couldn't agree more.

Beauty Mark It Results: A Shining Shampoo

After recently admitting that I haven't found the perfect shampoo to add shine to my locks, I challenged you all to share your favorite shine shampoo. But based on the small number of bookmarks, it looks like you were having as much trouble as I was!

One reader who clearly has her shine regimen down to a science is Dagne (seriously, look at her picture). She starts with Graham Webb's Stick Straight Shampoo and Conditioner, and concludes with Tosca's Shine Detangling Conditioner.

Additionally, both Dagne and Sage Eyes (again, look at her shiny hair) recommend spritzing on a little apple cider vinegar after shampooing and before conditioning for even more shine. I can't wait to try these out; how about you?

Beauty Mark It Results: Can't Live Without

For last week's Beauty Mark It challenge I asked you to imagine a fantasy (er, nightmare) that required you to choose just one beauty product that you can't live without. I know, it's a tough job but somebody's got to do it. My personal choice was a dual-sided mascara that transitions my bare lashes from day to evening with just one tube. It was my way of getting two products in one!

The less deceptive winner of the challenge goes to Miss PopSugar herself, only because I can personally attest to her particular obsession with Prada's Shielding Lip Balm. She loves it because it "goes on smooth. Never greasy. The individual little tubes last a couple weeks so it's worth the expensive ticket especially if you are a lip-balm fanatic." She's not joking when she says she has two years worth!

There's just something about the heat that makes you want to put away the heavier fragrance you've been wearing and really embrace the lighter fare. TeamSugar member Jude C has been sporting Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue as of late. She says that it's "light and fresh, but still feminine. My favorite Summer scent!" Can't argue with that.

Beauty Mark It Results: Your First Beauty Purchase

There are many rites of passage from childhood to adulthood: learning to ride a bike, discovering the truth about Santa Claus, your first kiss — just to name a few. These are experiences that are forever engraved in our minds. Here at Bella, however, I'm more concerned with another important memory: your first beauty purchase. Whether it was when you were 6 or 16, chances are you still remember what you bought. We're beauty junkies, after all, and who can forget her first fix?

There were so many fun bookmarks this week, but in the end, I went with the product that the majority of you purchased first. That honor goes to Maybelline's Great Lash Washable Mascara. Tomorrow is one of my favorite holidays, National Splurge Day. It's the one day a year that you can throw caution to the wind and unashamedly spoil yourself. Since we're all about beauty products here on Bella, I thought it would be fun to see what you're currently pining for, but not necessarily purchasing because of the price tag.

TeamSugar member colormesticky had Frédéric Fekkai on her mind too. She bookmarked his Overnight Hair Repair which retails for a whopping $195. That's $57.35 per oz. Beauty Mark Results: MTV Movie Awards Makeover

The MTV Movie Awards aired on Sunday, and even though the whole thing was one big Summer movie trailer, there were some enjoyable moments (hello Wayne's World). As expected, though, the most exciting part for me was watching the starlets walk the red carpet and debating their beauty choices.

Last week, I asked you all to imagine what makeup you would wear to the awards show. Reader Chiquita25 and her suggestion of Chanel Aqualumiére Gloss, was right on the money. Another Memorial Day day has come and gone, and I hope that you had a relaxing weekend enjoying the warm weather. The 61st Annual Cannes Film Festival has been underway for a week, and the stars are continuing to shine. This year at the festival, Salma Hayek wore a wrap-around braid, Angelina did a one-sided, half-up hairdo, and Natalie Portman went with a curly updo. But that's just the hair. I'm also curious about what's happening in the makeup realm, and that's exactly the question I posed to you last week: What beauty items would you rock on the red carpet?

Having sparkling white teeth can give you a confidence boost, and there are so many products on the market claiming to do the trick. That's why it was so enlightening to find out which ones you think are best.

Marcella brings up the point that many whitening products can be tough on sensitive teeth. Because of this, she prefers Denblan toothpaste, saying "I can't use the hard abrasive whiteners, so I love the mellowness of this one."

This week I said "buh-bye" to fad nail polish colors, and got back to basics instead. I wanted to see what you love for a classic pink nail polish shade. There were so many great suggestions, from bright to bold to sheer, it's nearly impossible to highlight just a couple! This week I wanted to know what beauty products you toss in your gym bag to fix yourselves up either pre- or postworkout. It looks like Angelica goes for a snazzy France Luxe headband to keep flyaways at bay, while urbanrosed is a fan of Aveda Confixor liquid gel. In light of this season's makeup trends, I wanted to find out what you use when you need to get the perfect nude lip. It's not an easy look to achieve, since it can veer into the dreaded corpse-like territory. However, when done right, its can be very chic.

It looks like many of you are big fans of Nars lip colors, and both Mintie and bailaoragaditana are going wild for the new Belle Du Jour Matte Lip Pencil. I'm also excited to try Vincent Longo Lipstain Lipstick SPF 15 in Nude. I love that it has an SPF (lips need protection, too!), and Baby Girl says it was recommended to her by a makeup artist because of its warm, wearable color. I'll take the advice of a pro any day.

After running out of my favorite eye makeup remover, I turned to you for help choosing a new one. Boy, did you all deliver! A lot of you praise oil-based cleansers for their effectiveness, like waterbaby, who uses Johnson's Baby Oil in Lavender, saying that "the lavender is great before bedtime!" If you have sensitive skin, magalaya recommends Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Milk, which is also ideal for the occasional late night out, since "this remover can be tissued off your face if you're too tired to rinse."
