What Was Your All-Time Worst Hair Moment?

Between the ages of 10 and 16, I had a crazy, curly permanent wave with thick bangs that I hair sprayed so heavily that they stood straight up! At the time, I thought I was too cool for school, but looking back I resembled a Bichon Frisé more than anything. Classy. What was your all-time worst hairstyle?

Do You Wear A Baseball Cap When You're Having A Bad Hair Day?

Yesterday, Hayden Panettiere was looking cute and casual while heading out to lunch with her main squeeze. Sometimes a girl just needs to run out the door and grab a quick bite, even if she is a star. We've seen Jessica Biel and even Jessica Alba sport a sporting cap, but I'm not the baseball hat type of gal-they make the shape of my head look funny. How about you?

Have You Ever Skipped an Event Because of Bad Hair?

Why wasn't Demi Moore at the Golden Globes? As she explained via Twitter, she was "feeling sick and having a bad hair day." I assume she skipped the show more because of illness than goofy hair.

A day later, she nursed herself back to health, proclaiming, "Feeling better and the sun is out but my hair is still askew!" (Demi's "askew" hair looks pretty good to me.) I've definitely had hair disasters on important days, but you know what they say: the show must go on. Have you ever skipped an event because of bad hair, or will only sickness stop you?

My boss is a tyrant. She screams, flies off the handle, can’t effectively communicate her needs, and yet she expects me to work productively with a smile on my face each and every day. There are days I’m ready to have a serious conversation with her explaining why I’m going to quit and take a better, higher paying job with someone who will respect me.

But since she’s only 32-inches tall and is currently running around with a yogurt-baked bean slime streak in her hair while hitting the sofa with a squeaky hammer, I am reminded why I’m holding back.

Throughout my 10-plus years in the workforce, I have worked some very interesting jobs in which I have dealt with people of all temperaments. As a senior editor of two well-regarded magazines, I have met dignitaries and celebrities in the art and design world. As a film and television location manager and, before that, a production assistant, I dealt directly with movie producers and directors, famous actors and musicians.

In other words, I have dealt with my share of egotistical, self-righteous blow-hards who can sometimes be unbelievably ill-mannered. But, it wasn’t until I became a mother that I realized how good I had had it back then even with the most egregious of adult tempers.

No matter how bad any of those other jobs got or how out-of-control some of the demands I had to negotiate, I never came across anyone who thought it proper form to disagree by head-butting me. To finish reading this post, click here.

The Internet just lets childhood embarrassments live on and on, doesn't it? My childhood BFF recently sent me this video as a reminder of our junior-high crushes on the Guys Next Door. Developed at the height of NKOTB mania, the Guys had a Saturday morning variety show that was ostensibly funny. We thought it was so cool, and much more sophisticated than the New Kids were. (It wasn't.) So at the risk of being mocked, here's an excruciatingly corny video for "Bad Hair Day." I'd argue that most of the "good" hairstyles are pretty heinous, but you be the judge.

More Than Just a Pretty Face and a Curvaceous Bod

A lot of attention has been paid to Christina Hendricks since she burst onto the scene as secretary Joan Holloway in the hit television drama, Mad Men. Mention her name and the conversation inevitably leads to her silhouette. Christina is often described as a throwback to the days of Marilyn Monroe, and it's easy to see why. Her body type is more Botticelli than waif: it's as if the term "hourglass figure" was conceived just for her. In an industry of skinny, svelte, and sometimes too-thin actresses, people find Christina's look refreshing, real, and downright sexy.

On the cover of this week's New York magazine, the Botticelli comparison gets perpetuated even further. With red hair cascading past her hips, the actress appears semi-nude in a set of pale vintage lingerie. If you were to put a scallop shell behind her, you'd have The Birth of Venus in living color. Despite that legions of fans and many in the media celebrating (though sometimes criticizing) her body, Christina was not feeling the love, and for good reason.

“It kind of hurt my feelings at first,” she admits. “Anytime someone talks about your figure constantly, you get nervous, you get really self-conscious. I was working my butt off on the show, and then all anyone was talking about was my body!”

It's a more than fair reaction from Christina, as any actress ultimately wants her body of work praised, not just her body. What she might not understand is that she has become a symbol of sorts. For the record, she is by no means a big girl. Perhaps we wouldn't have to celebrate (and scrutinize) women like Christina so much if there were more variety among Hollywood starlets.

So let's put the hourglass aside and focus on what's really important - the girl can act, and Christina's portrayal of Joan is heartbreaking, empowering, and infuriating all at once. Besides, when it comes to her body, her weight, her curves, and all the rest, you're not going to get much more from Christina - she is so over discussing it: "It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth."

The Natural No Antiperspirant Update: Pit-y Party

Shortly before The Natural ended, though, I dropped antiperspirant in favor of natural deodorant, and changing over has been an experience. Speak Up: What's the Worst Fitness Class You've Ever Taken?

When I first started getting into yoga over a decade ago, I went to every kind of yoga class I could find, to see which type was right for me. I also tried out different instructors, since it was clear that some were more experienced than others. One class I took was an Anusara-inspired class. The instructor was a lean and tall guy in his late 20s. He had extremely long hair that almost reached his hips, and he wore loose cotton pants with no shirt. He seemed very in touch with his friendly and spiritual side, as he made a point to greet every student individually with a hug and a "Namaste." I'll admit it was a little weird, but sweet just the same. The room was heated and as we began moving and sweating, I began getting whiffs of the worst BO I've ever smelled. It was slightly sour and earthy, and so distracting. I found myself looking all around, trying to figure out who forgot the deodorant that day.

I attempted to relax and just breathe, when all of a sudden while doing Wheel pose, the shirtless instructor stood by my hands, and as he leaned forward to lift my shoulders up, I came to realize who the funky odor was emanating from. His armpits were inches from my nostrils, and as his long hair fell into my face, I had to hold my breath in order to avoid the piercing stench. He looked at me and said, "Breathe, don't forget to breathe." I was like, "Um I could if maybe you bathed regularly and slathered on some deodorant." It was really too bad because I loved his style of yoga, but just thinking about inhaling body odor for 90 minutes kept me from ever taking his class again.
