Trend Alert: Pasty White Faces for Spring

Now that Paris Fashion Week is finally over, it's time to round up another beauty trend from the hottest fashion shows that France has to offer. Red lips have been and will always be in style, as will sexy, bed head hair. But a little more fashion forward and racy is next season's modern take on the white Geisha face.

At the Alexander McQueen show, faces were painted a sparkly, almost iridescent white colour. At John Galliano for Christian Dior, skin was uber pale and accentuated with dark plummy lips and eyes, and at the Tim Hamilton show, faces and lips were a sheer white shade. I don't know if I'd be brave enough to rock this trend, but it sure does make a statement. How about you - would you ever paint your face white for a party other than Halloween?

Season after season I create beauty-related gift guides because I personally love gifting beauty products to my family and close friends. I realize that perfumes, makeup, nail polish, skincare and haircare items are quite personal purchases, especially when it comes to colours and scents. However, there are a handful of cult items that have been best sellers for so long, it's hard to ignore their universal appeal. Goodies like Chanel N°5 , Nars blusher in Orgasm or Revlon Red nail varnish don't make the most popular lists for years on end for nothing. As far as Fall nail polish trends are concerned, I foresee lots of hot pinks, mushroom tones, smoky metallics, burnt oranges, deep, intense greens, and the return of purple - but with a little less smoke and a little more attitude. As far as textures go, think mattes, creams, and brushed, velvety finishes. But, if you're a fan of the shimmer, don't fret. There's plenty of sparkle to go around. Like most makeup collections, nail polish colors take inspiration straight from the runways, and since nails are a fashion accessory, after all, many of these recently launched polish shades come straight to us from the Fall catwalks. Let's just say I'm not bored.

Fab Ad: Marion Cotillard Returns as Lady Dior For Fall '09

Lady Dior's Spring '09 ad with Marion Cotillard was so successful, the French actress is back for Fall. But this time around, New York City, not Paris, is the setting. Photographer Annie Leibovitz shot the cinematic image of Marion as "Lady Red," the mirror suggesting a double life. A second scene - Marion getting ready for her close-up as a femme fatale - is slated for later in the season. These ads will debut in August issues and will be plastered around Paris during Fashion Week in October. What are your thoughts on this first one?

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy Goes Antianimal, Hermes Goes Pro

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy has the pick of the litter when it comes to wearing sumptuous designer creations but her selection might be a little more limited now that she's vowed to be more animal friendly. "I do not wear, buy, or own fur or animal skin other than leather or skin of animals raised for feeding purposes. I am not a vegetarian and I don't find it illogical to wear skins of animals whose meat is also eaten." said Bruni-Sarkozy in a recent letter to PETA. Will Carla inspire others to do the same?

Meanwhile, Hermes has just announced it will start breeding its own crocodiles to keep up with the high demand for its iconic handbags. Despite the recession, Hermes produces 3,000 crocodile bags a year, which is not enough for the crazy waiting list - often several years long - of customers. "We cannot face demand. We have massive overdemand. The world is not full of crocodiles." said Hermes chief executive, Patrick Thomas.
