Get the Look: Elizabeth Arden's "Pretty"

I've been coveting the look of the new print ads for Elizabeth Arden's new fragrance, Pretty. The vibrant flowering wallpaper in the background is over-the-top glam, as is the silk-upholstered loveseat. The print ad definitely borrows from Sofia Coppola's film, pushing a Marie Antoinette vibe.

The look of the print ad relies heavily on the antique loveseat, so you'll want to find the perfect seating option. Elizabeth Arden's Eight Hour Cream Gets Groovy

Elizabeth Arden is moving through the decades with limited-edition packaging depicting styles of the times. First was its tribute to the 1950s, which debuted last year with the brand's famous Eight Hour Cream and Lip Protectant Stick. And now, it's flower power all the way with a 1960s-style design. Yeah, baby, yeah.

Bust out your Mary Quant miniskirt, go-go boots, and psychedelic prints. The Eight Hour Cream '60s Vintage Edition Skin Protectant ($25) has a mod logo, psychedelic lid, and bold floral design. Last night in New York City, Gossip Girl actress Blake Lively arrived at the Ed Sullivan Theater to make an appearance on The David Letterman Show. Looking stunning and leggy in a bright pink mini-dress, Blake's hair also glittered under the city lights with perfect highlights and voluminous layers.

However, what I loved most about her look was her makeup. Blake always look age appropriate with just the right amount of eye and lip colour to enhance her natural beauty.

FACE: Blake has youth on her side, so her skin is virtually wrinkle-free and line-less. To achieve this look, be sure to exfoliate and moisturise regularly, paying special attention around the eyes. Begin by using a foundation such as Crème de la Mer's The Treatment Crème Foundation SPF 15 (since we know it's what Blake wears on the show) and blend well. Next, dab a little concealer under the eyes, around the nose and to any spots. Smooth and blend with a sponge.
EYES: For a subtle, yet polished eye, begin by sweeping a caramel-color shadow all over the lid as a base. Next, add a deeper bronzey-gold shadow like Becca Eye Colour Powder Shimmer in Jacquard to the crease and blend well. Then, use a champagne shadow such as Stila Kitten to the inner v and blend just under the lower lashes. Line the tops of the eyes with a black liquid liner (careful not to make the line too thick) and line the inner rims on the bottom with a flesh coloured pencil (to brighten). Finish with two coats of black mascara and a few false lashes in the corner if you dare!
CHEEKS: Apply a touch of blusher such as Urban Decay Afterglow in Score to the apples of the cheeks and along the cheekbones to warm up the skin. I suggest using an angled cheek brush (this brush does all the work for you).
LIPS: Lastly, apply a deep rosey-pink lipstick using a lipbrush for optimal coverage. I like Bare Escentuals Natural Lip Colour in Berry Glace for its creamy texture and deep colour. Follow with a shimmery gloss such as Elizabeth Arden High Shine Lip Gloss in Shimmering Pink on top as a finishing touch.

Elizabeth Arden Hopes You'll Feel Pretty

Everything about Elizabeth Arden's new soft floral fragrance is ultrafeminine, from the pink packaging to the perfume's name. Even the glass bottle's silhouette is inspired by a bud vase with the cap depicting a floral image.

Elizabeth Arden's new Pretty Eau de Parfum Spray ($49 to $62) is formulated with petalia, a new fragrance molecule that smells like, well, a petal.

Pretty is not as sappy-sweet as you might expect. Italian mandarin, orange blossom, and peach juice lend a fresh, bright feel, while starry jasmine, pink lily, and peony help create that expected floral scent without an overwhelming effect. To round it all off, musk, jacaranda wood, and creamy amber give it a warmth that's smooth yet hearty enough to be noticed.

While Pretty isn't an iconic scent like Sunflowers was for the '90s, this fragrance is pleasant, and it's worth a sample spritz at the perfume counter. Be sure to check out the Body Lotion and Body Powder with Puff ($37.50), too. In one word, Pretty is very "Spring," both in scent and the way it makes you feel when wearing it.

Pure Finish Lets You Do the Twist

Here's something from the why-didn't-they-think-of-this-before files: Elizabeth Arden's Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation ($37.50). It's a mineral makeup foundation with a twist - literally. Housed in a sturdy compact, the foundation is released with a gentle twist, revealing a few shavings of fresh powder. Since you can produce as much or as little as you want, it's a nice way to transport mineral makeup without having to worry about powder spilling all over the place.

An extra perk: It has built-in SPF, which is one reason that makeup artist Jenna Menard used Pure Finish on Uma Thurman while the actress was at the Sundance Film Festival. I've been using this powder on days when I don't want to spend a ton of time futzing with liquid foundation, or I just need to cover a few imperfections. It covers redness and blemishes but doesn't look heavy. (I do, however, still need a separate concealer for my Uncle Fester under-eye circles.) If you're a low-maintenance girl, I think you'll like this powder a lot.

Elizabeth Arden Goes Vintage

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream is one of the - if not the- first cult-classic beauty product, famously used by Marilyn Monroe. A few years ago, Elizabeth Arden released a hand lotion version, and now, over 70 years after its inception, the cream has been repackaged in limited-edition 1950's packaging. The new Lip Protectant Stick has SPF 15 ($25) and is packed with vitamin E Since it's the time of year where my lips are inexplicably dry no matter what I do, I thought I'd give it a little road test.

I'm a fan of the lipstick-style tube, since it really only requires one hand to apply. The actual product has the same scent as Eight Hour Cream: powder-y and retro. This thick formula sits on top of lips, which makes me think it's kind of heavy on the wax. Still, it stays on and heavily moisturizes, so if you can swing the price and are one of the many Eight Hour Cream devotees, give it a try. And stay tuned: Arden will be releasing these cute limited-edition decades-themed Eight Hour Cream packaging every few months.

Time to Try a Tinted Mascara?

Wearing brightly colored mascara is usually a lot of look, but it doesn't have to be. The newest varieties have just a hint of tint, adding depth and dimension without overpowering your lashes with color. They work by adding colored pigments to a dark base, which can play up your eye color without making you look like an extra in The Warriors.

If your eyes are brown: Make the color stand out by using a dark blue mascara, such as Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Lash Extending mascara ($20) in Midnight.

If your eyes are green: Look for a mascara with plum undertones to bring out your eye color. Benefit BADgal Plum ($19) is subtle enough that you could wear it to even a conservative office.

If your eyes are hazel: Makeup artist Pat McGrath used Cover Girl ExactEyelights at the Spring 2009 Anna Sui show. Available in four shades, each uses small metallic pigments to reflect light and emphasize the eye color. Black Gold ($8.95) is gorgeous on hazel eyes.

If your eyes are blue: Look for a brown or copper-toned mascara to highlight blue irises. I'm a fan of Exceptionnel de Chanel mascara ($28) in Smoky Brun; the tri-sided wand does a great job of separating lashes and creating volume, and the black-brown color is very sultry.

The cult classic Eight Hour Cream is one of my all-time favourite beauty essentials. It's ideal for using everywhere – lips, face, hands and also soothes any dry areas of the body like heels, elbows and knees.

Elizabeth Arden are now launching a new limited edition version of the beauty editor's favourite, and how can we resist?

The packaging takes its cue from the Americana of the 50s, with chic retro motifs straight from the American Diner school of style. It will be available for a limited time only from 10th November, nationwide.

This new, or rather, old, take on an old favourite has been created in conjunction with Elizabeth Arden's 'Celebration of the Decade' collection, and contains the classically beloved cream, just in a new pot.

I love how it looks almost medicinal. Safety first, kids.

What A Pair: Dual-Ended Mascara

OK, so the concept of double-sided mascara isn't entirely novel. But after checking out Two-Timer Mascara from The Balm, I thoroughly enjoy having two options in one product to choose from. After a shopping trip, I noticed that more and more of these mascara pairs are being developed and I'm pretty stoked about it. If you share my enthusiasm, you'll love these three dual-sided mascaras too. And of course, if you know of any others - do tell!

Le 2 de Guerlain Mascara ($35) is a mascara that houses two different brushes on either side of the tube. The first brush curls, adds volume and length, while the second (mini-sized) brush gets to those tiny, hard-to-reach lashes on the inner and outer corners of the eye. I haven't tried it yet, but it sure looks supafly.

Elizabeth Arden Two Brush Mascara ($18) is a multi-functional, conditioning mascara that is available only in a deep black shade (however, I hear there are more to come). One side thickens, separates and elongates and the other brush is smaller to ensure that no lash will ever go naked.

Lancome Cils Design Pro- Custom Design Double Mascara ($35) has two brushes to help create the ultimate lash. The fluffy side lengthens and the other smaller brush helps coat the fine lashes (again on the inner and outer corners) while combing out any clumps. Available only in black.
