New Product Alert: Sonia Kashuk Spray Makeup

I've been looking at DiorSkin Airflash for a few months, but I wanted to play around with this kind of product before dropping $60 on it. So finding these new spray-on products from Sonia Kashuk is a delight. The makeup artist's first limited-edition collection, available at Target, includes Eliminate Shine ($12.99) and Golden Summer ($12.99).

Spray products might seem like a gimmick at first, but they're actually legitimate. The particles are so small that they can be sprayed, which can help you get a smoother, more natural look. The key is to use a brush or sponge to apply the products - you don't want to spray them directly on your face.

Eliminate Shine is a light tan powder that helps mattify skin. Because it goes on so sheerly, it made my skin look more even-toned and less shiny after a busy day of blogging. There is pigment in this, however, so I don't think it would work well for women who have dark skin - it'll just make your skin look ashy. On the other hand, the bronzer, Golden Shimmer, would be beautiful on olive- or caramel-colored complexions. It adds a bit of warmth and a slight sheen, and it would be particularly sexy on just-shaved legs.

Coming Soon: Sonia Kashuk Spring/Summer 2008 Collection

Sonia Kashuk is about to launch her new Spring/Summer 2008 collection at Target stores nationwide. The products will be on shelves by March 1, however, you can preview a few of the products here first! The launch also includes an array of new makeup brushes, but today I'm going to tell you about the color collection.

The line contains eight new single eye shadows, seven shadow duos, three eye quads, three cream shadows, six matte lip crayons and six soft-tinted lip balms with SPF 14. But by far, my favorite products of the bunch are the three Dual Ended Sheer Lip Color and Plumping Glossy Tints because they're just so cool.

One side of the jumbo tube houses a sheer, full-sized creamy lipstick and the other side houses a high-shine plumping gloss that's tinted a lighter shade of the lipstick. Both products are moisturizing, the gloss isn't overly tingly, and since the base color is a lipstick, the color is rich.

I've always liked Sonia Kashuk products for their high quality at affordable prices and I've really got to give her kudos for making Target runs so much more fun!

Velvety Matte Lip Crayon ($6.99) is a moisturizing lip crayon with a matte texture. It's available in six shades.
Hydrating Lip Balm with SPF 14 ($7.49) is a tinted, shiny and hydrating lip balm available in six shades.
Shimmering Long Wear Crème Eye Shadow ($6.99) are metallic cream eye shadows. The smooth-textured shades blend so easily that they can be applied with your fingers or with a brush. Available in three shades; amethyst, golden and pewter.
Dual Ended Sheer Lip Color and Plumping Glossy Tint ($11.99) is a unique product since it contains a lipstick on one side and plumping gloss on the other. The tubes are super-sized and they are available in three lip-colored pinky shades.
Eye Quads ($9.99) Three new eye quads in shades of violet, blue and neutrals have been added to the ever-popular collection.
Enhance Eye Color ($5.99) isn't a new formula, but it has new packaging and seven new colors. The cases are now thinner and have magnetic closure.
Eye Shadow Duos ($7.99) now has eight new shades to choose from and the names are also really cute. (I personally like Match Maker, Tongue in Cheek and Double Whammy.) The shadows are also packaged in the new slender, magnetic compacts.

Think Pink: Sonia Kashuk Pouch of Pink Makeup Case & Brush Set

Beauty Byte: Sonia Kashuk to Launch Products to Fight Breast Cancer

I didn't know that makeup artist Sonia Kashuk was a breast cancer survivor, but it turns out she had a double mastectomy after being diagnosed last year. Sadly, breast cancer runs in her family-both her grandmother and mother were diagnosed with the disease-but fortunately, Sonia is healthy now.

Now that she's beaten cancer, she's planning some new products for her Target cosmetics line, and money raised will benefit The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. As Sonia says:

I will be offering a special brush set, cosmetic bag and toiletries case at Target stores nationwide to raise money to support breast cancer research. I am most honored and proud to tell you that 100% of the profits will be donated to BCRF. I ask you from deep within my heart and soul to help me in this fight to raise awareness and money for breast cancer.

The products will be available in October, when is when many other pink-ribbon products hit stores, too. But I'll be looking forward to buying Sonia's among all the rest, simply because it's clearly a cause that's dear to her. Congratulations to Sonia for regaining her health, and for doing something to help other women.

Marvelous Tinted Moisturizers With SPF, Part I

Tinted moisturizers are fantastic because not only do they hydrate your skin but they also cover your flaws. They are lighter and more sheer than a liquid foundation, yet they still provide enough coverage to create a beautiful canvas and even out your skin tone.

Reader Review of the Day: Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge

Those teardrop-shaped makeup applicator sponges seem to be all the rage these days. Recently reader Hyzenthlay20 gave the Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge ($10) a whirl, and here's what she thought of this makeup tool:

I stopped using foundation brushes because I always had lines, no matter how hard I tried to avoid them. I had reverted to using my fingers. Then I saw a review for the Beauty Blender on YouTube and whoever it was said there was an alternative at Target that was basically the same thing at half the cost. I went and got one, and it's very cool! It's soft (wet it before you use it) and it does stipple the foundation onto my face evenly and nicely. If you want to try the Beauty Blender, but don't want to spend $20, invest $10 on this one at Target.

How-To: Kate Walsh's Late Show Look

When Kate Walsh made her entrance on The Late Show With David Letterman last night, my friend and I audibly gasped. Her super glossy, retro hairstyle perfectly complemented her bright lipstick. In all, the look was very Mad Men, so naturally I'm obsessed. Here's how to get the look:

Blow out hair with a side part, lifting at the roots. Follow with a big curling iron, making sure the barrel isn't too close to your roots. Use a hair spray that provides both shine and hold, like Bumble & bumble Shine Spray ($34).

Line the entire rim of the eye with black liner (it looks like she's wearing pencil to me, but if you've mastered something else, try that) and apply a light grey eyeshadow on the lid, just until the crease. Try Sonia Kashuk Powder Partners Eye Shadow Duo in Cocktail Hour 01 ($7.99). Use your regular black mascara.
Sweep on a hint of peachy blush on the apples of the cheeks, like Benefit Dandelion ($28).
Finding the perfect orange-based red lipstick can be difficult. Experiment by mixing shades you already have, or try Sephora Maniac Long Wearing Lipstick in 09 ($12), a bright orange with red shimmer. A lip liner will help the color stay put, but any neutral color should work to prevent bleeding. Just like Dr. Addison does.
