@Tabloid - I know I shouldn't have to know about anything for my face other than, "It looks pretty nasty!" but with my previous dermatologist, I really felt much safer knowing before I went in. She really didn't give me the time of day and would just throw a new prescription at me every time I visited her. She prescribed me Retin-A gel (not micro, this was the stronger stuff) back when it first became popular about 10 years ago. What she neglected to mention was that you probably should moisturize when you use this stuff. I had huge sores all over my face after only a week from using that stuff. Not surprisingly, she apparently "no longer practices" at the clinic she used to be at...I don't know, I just like the idea that if I know what my skin's deal is, and know some prescription products that are on the market and are directed towards my skin type, I have a better chance of getting to the root of the problem. I know the doctor *should* know what I need, but I live with my skin every minute of every day and she only sees it for 15 minutes every 6 months.

Does anyone else have to wait like 2 months before getting in to see her dermatologist? It doesn't matter when I make an appointment, she is always booked for 2 months. I use Differin and Metrogel and I usually don't break except for a few on my forehead and some small bumps on my chin. I hope Dr C will change my rx for me when I go in May.

No one's acne is curable, but the prescription of a antibiotics will help to CONTROL your condition and fight the bacteria that are causing part of the problem!redrover189 - You don't need information or doing a research to know your condition before meeting a dermatologist. You just have to know what type of skin problem do you have. A part of the job of a dermatologist is to know your condition as well. Before they prescribe you anything, they will obviously examine your condition and ask you a few question.

I have the mild sandpaper type of acne, but I swear it responds to nothing! Thanks for doing this quiz, I will be very interested to see the types of products available. Hopefully it will be something other than BP because I am allergic to it.

I had severe, but finally this month I was able to stop using Accutane. Now I have no acne at all! However Bella, I think you should include some tips for body acne, too. My back was the only place I got adult onset acne.

Hey Bella I thought that acne vulgaris was the kind only teenagers get and adult acne has another name and that most over the counter products treated acne vulgaris (teenage) only.
