At Phillip Lim Fall 2011, Odile Gilbert chats about the hairstyle she created for the show. Makeup artist Lisa Butler shares her forecast for fall eye shadow trends and tells us about the makeup look that models wore on the runway.
Winter is pretty, but its effects on hair and skin can be just the opposite. That's why we've tracked down five of our favorite beauty treats of the month. They'll help you tame fly-aways, treat chapped lips, or just look a little more perky even in the harshest weather. There's something here for every budget, so check out what we're loving.
"This smells like Holiday Inn stuff," he said.
"But it's French," I harrumphed. "They don't even have Holiday Inn in France!" (Not true.)
Fast-forward to our next date. I show up after using the shampoo and conditioner, then blow-drying my hair without any products. At one point, Mr. Bella smells my hair and says, "Wow, your hair smells really good." Sigh.
At any rate, he's right: the shampoo leaves a beautiful, soft floral scent. More importantly, it cuts down on frizz and flyaways, plus I can go one extra day without washing. At $34 for the shampoo and $38 for the conditioner, these items are definite splurges. But if it fits into your budget — or you merely seek great-smelling hair care — it's worth a look.
Yep, that's the deal. Luxe hair care brand Kérastase is offering 20 percent off (plus free shipping!) until Wednesday at 11:59 p.m. EST. To get the deal, just go to the Kérastase site, shop, and then enter the code family when you hit checkout. The only downside? Unfortunately, residents of the great states of Alaska and Hawaii don't get free shipping.
If you love free salon services and live near the West Coast, you're going to want to mark June 23 on your calendar, because that's when Kérastase is holding its Our Treat Day at salons all over the Western half of the country. Our Treat is a one-day blowout (literally) where Kérastase Consultant salons throw open their doors to the public and give out free treatment rituals and blow outs. All you have to do is drop by a participating salon — you can find the nearest one by visiting the Kérastase website. It's a sweet freebie, and the brand is also partnering with Locks of Love for the event, so while you're there, why not donate, too?
Oh, and here's another fact: my hair has been fried by a new dryer lately. Frizz city, population: me. So when I was invited to try the 30-minute "in-salon ritual," I jumped at the chance to make my hair a bit more Lively. The mix of lipids, emollients, and vitamins promises to strengthen hair, heal the scalp, and create shine and softness. Can a $60 treatment make me feel like a new woman, preferably one with better hair? Join me at the salon to find out.
Calling all Kérastase aficionados. We all feel the sting of this rough-around-the-edges economy, and that's why the high-end haircare line, known for its luxe conditioning treatments, is rolling out the red carpet just for you.
Today, at over 750 participating salons across the country, Kérastase is offering up complimentary in-salon treatments and blow-dries, valued at over $100. Woohoo! We all know what a bummer it can be when a favorite beauty item gets discontinued. But, there's often a rainbow ahead of that dark, cloudy tunnel. Take, for instance, Kérastase. They're offering up 30 percent off of several soon-to-be out-of-stock products from now until June 1. Just enter the promo code VIP30 at the checkout, and you'll be all set.
In addition, if you're a fan of the brand's anti-thinning Densitive line, you can receive a complimentary 30-day supply of Densitive Nutrients (a $60 value) when you purchase any Densitive product — and enter the promo code DENSITIVE — from now until April 30. Your hair (and pocketbook) will be happy.
The good news? The end of cold weather is approaching. The bad news? Perhaps your hair has taken a beating. Recently reader DCStar tried out Kérastase Resistance Substance Constructive Leave-In Conditioner ($28), a treatment that helps improve damaged hair. Here's what she thought:
Kérastase never disappoints, in my opinion, and this product fits right in with my high expectations. After washing, I took a nickel-sized amount in my palms and rubbed it through the ends of my hair, working back towards the roots (but not above ear-level), and then used a blow-dryer as usual. My hair looked model perfect, straight, and with fewer flyaways than usual. The smell is an added treat all day long — every time you toss your gorgeous hair. I definitely recommend it.
I'm a fan, too — it does smell amazing. Do you love reviewing products? Well, then it's time to head over to our Product Reviews website. To sweeten the pot, we're having an amazing contest right now. For every three quality reviews you submit, you're entered for a chance to win a $500 gift certificate from Benefit Cosmetics. Woo hoo!
There are some things that are beyond my understanding: The pyramids, tetraneutrons, why Heidi Montag came out with a record. I now consider Kerastase's new shampoo, Bain Divalent ($27), one of them. This shampoo is for those with a greasy scalp and dry ends — a.k.a. combination hair. Those with dry hair know what it's like to skip a few shampoos in hopes of getting silky ends, only to find your roots so greasy that by the time you do wash, you need a clarifying shampoo, putting you back at square one. How a shampoo can know where your scalp is and where your ends are is beyond me. While lathering up with it, your roots feel less oily and your ends feel silky. Of course, $27 is a lot to go (literally) down the drain, so you could also use two different shampoos, one on roots and one on ends. But if you're a busy lady with a little cash to burn, give it a try!
